Rare 1977 US guitar psych album from Florida that was produced by Mike Pinera of Blues Image and Iron Butterly fame. Featuring some cool fuzz guitar work with melodic vocals this is reminiscent of Jeff Liberman with plenty of free flowing Hendrixy guitar work and a cool 70's funky vibe.

Chilean band Embrujo's lone self-titled album, originally released in 1971, is one of those records that was beyond the grasp of the public at large for decades, unless you wanted to fork over an unreasonable amount of money for it. Progressive rock was still in its embryonic stages in 1971, and even though the Summer of Love was already receding into the mists of history, psychedelia still had some steam left, probably even more so in South America, where there was still a bit of a time lag for Anglo-American musical influences to take root. In fact, Embrujo had already released an album in the late ‘60s under the name Kissing Spell…

Steve Linnegar was an accomplished songwriter, musician, painter and martial arts disciple. A legendary figure from the South African 60s-70s underground music scene, the "hippie king of Cape Town" formed the Snakeshed band in the 70s along with top guitar player Martin Kopelowitz. Refusing offers from some record labels who insisted they should go "commercial", they decided to record and release their first album, "Classic Epics", all by themselves with collaborations from keyboard player/producer Peter Hubner and legendary session guitar player Jehtro Butow. Released in 1982 on their own private label, this is one of South African Prog/Psych crown jewels. Layers of acoustic/electric guitars, Gilmour-alike guitar solos, ultra-melodic vocals, effects, cool Oriental-Tao inspired lyrics…

Bigelf are sort of the white version of Lenny Kravitz. They're astoundingly accurate rock revivalists in terms of songwriting, instrumentation, and recording techniques. They also cobble together styles that in their heyday would never have co-existed: Hendrix-ish blues, Beatlesque pop, Floydian psychedelia. Unlike Kravitz, however, Bigelf are much more sonically daring. They specialize in blowing up basic germs of ideas into Technicolor fantasies light years away from their origins. "Superstar," for example, begins with terse, standard-issue AC/DC chords, then flowers into bright pop changes and lush vocal harmonies.

Maypole were one of the great bands to explode on the scene in the late 60's. Originally from the Baltimore area, their 1970 LP "The Real" is revered by many collectors. This is the second album by Maypole, which consists of studio sessions recorded in Miami from 1973-1974 which have never been released before. 53 minutes of hard driving rock tastefully injected with some nice orchestration.

Like long hair man - as the man said. From the mystic swirls of time, or the 60s, to put it another way, came the Fairies, who begat the Pink Fairies and many happy hours of psychedelic bliss. To get the chronology right, the 'Live At The Roundhouse' album first came out on Big Beat in 1982, but was originally recorded at the famous engine shed in July 1975. Then in 1978 drummer Twink cut a 12" E.P. with some friends, which came out on Chiswick Records and produced the wonderfully mixed genre "Psychedelic Punkeroo". Finally a re-formed Pink Fairies came out with 'Previously Unreleased' in '84.They're all here, Larry Wallis, Duncan 'Sandy' Sanderson, Paul Rudolph, Russell Hunter, Twink and even half a song from Mick Farren. I always thought "Uncle Harry's Last Freakout" just about summed it up, but then 15 years of the summers of love and it's all back with us.

The music on Deutsche Elektronische Musik 3 was all recorded in the 1970s up to the early 1980s, at a time when forward-thinking German electronic and rock groups were searching for a new musical identity in order to separate themselves from both the cultural legacy of post-world war two Germany as well the cultural imperialism of USA and UK rock. In this process German groups created some of the most unique and inspired music, the defining motorik beat alongside a host of ethno-musical influences from far afield including Turkey, India, Brazil as well as the musical and futurist possibilities of developments in electronics and technology itself.

Although Paul Conley (synthesizer/keyboards/Moog synthesizer), John Emelin (vocals/voices), Tom Flye (drums/percussion), Rusty Ford (bass), and Kim King (guitar/Moog synthesizer/amplifiers) were products of the fertile New York City rock & roll scene of the mid-'60s, the combo made their way via Denver, Colorado circa 1965…

An unprecedented project in the rock field: a five-CD box set of unreleased material by a cult artist that never had anything close to a chart hit. Of course Captain Beefheart is the ultimate cult artist, and one with a following so rabid (if limited) that the compilation has a wider audience than many would anticipate. Despite the impressive chronological span and variety of demos, live performances, backing tracks, and outtakes, be cautioned that this is not a best-of or ad hoc career overview. A good deal of the tracks (some of which have long been available on bootleg) are of slightly substandard or low fidelity, and Beefheart's most significant work is ultimately contained on his numerous official releases.
